MAKR-140-Laser cutter rubber stamp

MAKR-140-Laser cutter rubber stamp
  • Tools:
    • Universal Laser cutter
  • Software:
    • Kittl.com website
    • Inkscape
  • Materials: synthetic fabric
  1. The biggest challenge
    • I cut this with too much space surrounding the text. I had to use a hobby knife to trim the rubber to an acceptable border
  2. What am I most proud of?
    • It’s hard to find something I am proud of about this piece. I am proud that I attempted to cut rubber and that I learned some things I will NOT do in the future.
  3. What would I do differently next time?
    • Next time I will use a different font. I’ll also cut it from the material, closer to the text, maybe even outline the text before the cut. I have some ideas about how to make a deeper cut around the text. I might try multiple passes on the laser cutter. I read that you slow the speed of the cutter, the cuts will be deeper. I also wondered if I could create a little added emphasis if I set the depth of the material to be only half of its actual depth and create red “cut lines” around the text. Then I would set the depth correctly to cut it from the material.

I used a hobby knife to cut away the excess that I should have done by machine. Learning opportunity.

….

I used acrylic paint to test the stamp. It does work, but not quite as nicely as I had hoped.
