The Saga Continues-Home Assistant

The Saga Continues-Home Assistant

I expected this would be a never-ending project when it began last year. The system has grown-up and is exploring its identity.

It all began as a way to keep the functions of my smart home local. Most of my voice commands and smart devices used to be controlled by either Amazon Echo or Google Home. Privacy was a major concern, but when my internet was down, I lost access to voice control of my devices. I no longer use Google or Amazon speakers.

My personal assistant, Jarvis, helps me to stay organized and control my home– all without sending information to the cloud or announcing products I might want to buy.

I have two Fire tablets sideloaded with Google Play. I used Google Play to download a program called “Fully Kiosk”. I configured the kiosk to autoload Home Assistant. Now I have home displays which show informational data and control devices.

My starting tab display is the Day Planner.

The dashboard has different tabs for different functions.

This semester I added the garage door control and monitor to the bundle. Link https://thinksoftly.com/home-automation-garage-door/
