This is the third scrub top conversion I have done. Each is a little different, and I have learned something from each one.
Steps:
Cut off sleeves
I left a quarter inch portion of the sleeve instead of removing it at the seam.Measure and cut down the center of the front panel between the pockets
I used a rotary cutter to get a clean cutFinish the sleeve seam
Fold in and sew down the quarter inch of the old sleeve.Embroider back of vest
I chose a design I had previously purchased from Etsy. I made no modifications to the design. My stabilizer was very difficult to remove. I will use a different brand/type next time.Press the opening of the vest
I pressed the opening and used some fabric fusing tape to secure the crease, then used the same tape to secure a ribbon along the inside of the openingAdd trim
I sewed decorative trim to the opening of the vest
Biggest takeaway —
I wish I had checked my thread inventory before starting the project. I would have chosen colors that popped more. I should have used a lighter weight stabilizer.
